My word of 2023 is curiosity. With a birthday towards the beginning of the year, I find the start of the calendar year a meaningful time for reflection. Resolutions never inspired me for the year ahead, so a few years ago I reframed my reflections to consider a word of the year. This year I tried a “More / Less” list à la Julia Rothman, I kept coming back to curiosity (more on that in this NYTimes article "Draw the Year Ahead: A more/less list helps you set your intentions for this new year.").
So as I was brainstorming my
, I kept coming back to this word and felt the urge to lean into exploring this further.’s post about “What motivating you to create?” helped me to consider what’s important for me this year.In my past 100 day projects I’ve been motivated by “practice” — working on my skills in painting @democracypostcards and drawing (there’s a highlight on my IG page, which for some reason I can’t share…), but never made it to 100.
This year, I’m motivated to create “to produce” and “to play.” I also realized I wanted a different space to share my work, so decided to launch this substack
! (And learning how to use substack feels inline with these goals.)Here, I’ll be hosting my 2023 project #100creativecuriousitycards! I’ll share the inspiration for my project, as well as explorations on creativity and curiosity.
